Sharon Mates, Ph.D., Intra-Cellular Therapies' Chairman & CEO, is a member of the Board.

David M. Kipnis, M.D., is the Distinguished University Professor of Medicine and Professor of Molecular Biology and Pharmacology at Washington University School of Medicine. Previous to this appointment Dr. Kipnis was chair of the Department of Medicine at Washington University from 1972-1992. Dr. Kipnis is known for his pioneering research in glucose, amino acid and fat metabolism which has led to fundamental advances in our understanding of diabetes mellitus and as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Washington University he guided the department into one of the world's outstanding medical institutions. Dr. Kipnis has received many awards and honors including election to the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.

Richard Lerner, M.D., President, Scripps Research Institute. Since 1986, Dr. Richard A. Lerner has been the President of the Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) in La Jolla, CA, directing its evolution into a premier research institution focusing on problems at the interface of biology and chemistry. Prior to this role, he served as the Chairman of the Department of Molecular Biology at the Institute. Dr. Lerner is a graduate of Stanford Medical School. He is widely recognized as a pioneer in the field of catalytic antibodies, an area that has greatly enhanced our knowledge of enzyme function and yielded valuable industrial catalysts. Dr. Lerner's honors include election to the National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Wolf Prize in Chemistry, and the 1996 California Scientist of the Year Award.

Joel S. Marcus, CEO, Alexandria Real Estate Equities. Mr. Marcus has been Chief Executive Officer of Alexandria Real Estate since March 1997 and has served as a director since the Company's inception. From 1986 to 1994, Mr. Marcus was a partner at the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, LLP (including a predecessor firm), specializing in corporate finance and capital markets, venture capital and mergers and acquisitions, in the bio-pharmaceutical industry. From 1984 to 1994, he also served as General Counsel and Secretary of Kirin-Amgen, Inc., a joint venture which financed the development of, and owned patents to, two multi-billion dollar genetically-engineered biopharmaceutical products. Mr. Marcus was formerly a practicing certified public accountant specializing in the financing and taxation of real estate. Mr. Marcus received the Ernst & Young 1999 Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
