ITI-722

Intra-Cellular Therapies has developed ITI-722, a highly potent 5HT2A antagonist for sleep maintenance insomnia. ITI-722 works by maintaining sleep throughout the night, rather than inducing sleep. We expect this product candidate will have several key advantages over current products prescribed for the treatment of insomnia. First, we expect ITI-722 is non sedating, thus leading to a reduced likelihood of exhibiting next-day hang over effects. Second, ITI-722 is expected to have a strong safety profile with little addictive potential. Finally, because of its mechanism of action, ITI does not expect ITI-722 to require special dispensing rules called scheduling. ITI is evaluating ITI-722 for the treatment of sleep disorders in patients with Parkinson's disease. A majority of patients with Parkinson's disease suffer from sleep disorders, thereby increasing the need for a new non-sedating medication. In this population, sedative medications are contra-indicated.

All of the preclinical work on ITI-722 has been completed, and ITI is expected to initiate Phase I clinical studies in 2007.
